Having reusable containers for skincare is amazing for the environment but it can be slightly tricky when it comes to cleaning them. We give you our how to: cleaning edition.
Our aluminium certified food grade containers are light proof, leak proof, rust resistant and vapor proof, making them the ultimate storage for your skincare. We eliminated single-use plastic bottles from our range by creating a system of plant-based eco-refills that will be delivered straight to your door every 8 weeks (check out how it works).
The high concentration of Manuka Honey in our range allows you to safely pour new products straight into the jars and bottles over left over product, but we recommend to clean your containers thoroughly at least every 4 refills or every 8 months. This will prevent the development of nasty bacteria and will keep your products fresh, use after use. Here are some instructions to hand-wash the containers, and remember that they are also safe to wash in the dishwasher (just make sure that they are dry at the end of the washing cycle before you fill them with product).
Step 1. Empty
Remove any excess product before cleaning your bottles and jars. Unscrew the pump from the Remove and Prepare bottles over a basin and pump or spray out any excess cleanser or toner.
Step 2. Soak
Add 1 teaspoon of dish washing liquid to a bowl of warm water. Submerge bottles, jars, pumps and caps into the soapy mixture and soak for 2-4 hours. After just a few hours you will notice that all excess product from the jars and bottles has come to the surface of the water.
Step 3. Rinse
Rinse the bottles and jars in fresh warm water. Pump or spray any excess water out of your pumps.
Step 4. Sanitise
Use a mild bleach solution (1 teaspoon of bleach to 2 litres of water) to fill your Remove and Prepare bottles and leave for 2-4 hours. Empty the contents, turn upside down and leave to air dry overnight. With a clean, soft cloth apply a vinegar solution (1 part white vinegar to 1 part water) and wipe the outside and inside of each jar thoroughly. The cloth needs to be damp with the solution but not wet. Turn upside down and leave to air dry overnight.
A few notes before you go…
Friction from screwing the lids of your jars over time can wear the rust resistance coating of the containers. Please make sure you completely dry them before reapplying lids to avoid rust.
Do not let moisture collect on the inside of jar lids, as this will encourage the growth of mould and bacteria.
Ensure bottles and jars are completely dry before refilling.
