Your Skin’s Microbiome

Our skin plays host to millions of microscopic bacteria. We’ve talked a lot over the past nine weeks about establishing a healthy microbiome on your skin. That’s because an abundance of good bacteria helps protect your skin and ward off infection.

Often, we aren’t aware of the bad bacteria on our skin until we experience acne, rashes, or infections. Tuning in to your skin will help you notice small changes and take steps to get your health back on track.

One of the best ways to do that is by making sure you’re getting plenty of vitamins. Research has shown that vitamins play an important role in skin health, and many of these are most effective when applied to the skin.

That doesn’t mean you should slack on your diet, though! A healthy, balanced diet packed with vitamin-rich foods will support both your skin and overall health.

This week, I encourage you to keep a close eye on your skin’s texture and arm yourself with the knowledge of which vitamins you need to include to get your glow well and truly on!

There are five main vitamins I want to concentrate on today. Each brings its own benefits to help revitalize your skin.

  1. Vitamin A

Vitamin A increases the rate of cell turnover, which is really important as your skin heals. You want new, healthy cells to replace the older damaged ones.

It also improves the texture and tone of your skin. Try our Dr Au Concentrates Anti-Aging Face Oil Level 1 and Dr Au Concentrates Anti-Aging Face Oil Level 2 to give your skin a healthy boost of vitamin A.

  1. Vitamin B-3

If you’re experiencing skin changes related to aging, make sure you’re getting plenty of vitamin B-3. It’s known to help reduce the signs of aging, and there’s also good research suggesting that it improves the appearance of age spots and discoloration.

Our Remove Gentle Facial Cleanser with concentrated vitamin B-3 is an excellent choice when you need to boost the B-3 levels in your skin.

  1. Vitamin C

You’re probably aware that vitamin C is good for your health. Chances are you’ve reached for vitamin C tablets or at least a glass of orange juice when you’re feeling under the weather.

But it’s not only useful for fighting off colds – it’s also well-known as an antioxidant. And research has shown that at the right dose, vitamin C can reverse oxidative damage caused by free radicals.

Our Prepare Spray On Brightening Lotion (Toner) is rich in vitamin C, so you can feel good knowing you’re giving your skin a powerful dose of antioxidants with every spray.

  1. Vitamin D

Your body naturally produces vitamin D from sunshine, but many people’s bodies don’t actually make enough vitamin D on their own. This is a problem because vitamin D supports skin metabolism and helps with growth and repair.

You’ll want to make sure your skin has plenty of vitamin D to heal and rejuvenate. Try Dr Au Concentrates Superfruit Eye Serum to add plenty of vitamin D to the areas that need it most.

  1. Vitamin E

Vitamin E is also a potent antioxidant. That makes it a crucial addition to help fight oxidative damage and free radicals.

Our PM Night Cream is an excellent source of vitamin E. It’s simple to use and will help your skin rejuvenate while you sleep.

By the way, did you know that sun-grown natural ingredients from New Zealand are known to contain twice the level of vitamins as those grown elsewhere in the world? That’s pretty amazing, and it’s just one of the reasons we source our ingredients from right here in New Zealand.

Hero Ingredient – New Zealand Ponga Fern

Our hero ingredient this week is also native to New Zealand – it’s the New Zealand ponga fern, which grows freely throughout the country.

The Maori people have used the pulp of young ponga fern fronds to treat wounds for centuries, and now, modern science is catching up.

It was recently discovered that ponga fern contains a polysaccharide composition that forms a molecular network to give your skin an instant lift. Fine lines and wrinkles are reduced with immediately visible results.

You can find New Zealand Ponga Fern in our AM Day Serum. It’s perfect for leaving your skin feeling tight and soft – what a lovely way to start your day!

Boost Your Vitamin Intake
